During a conversation with Hugh Hewitt, a conservative lawyer, author, and broadcaster, Trump expressed his belief that Vice President Kamala Harris would make a more capable president than Joe Biden due to Biden’s advanced age and perceived cognitive decline. Trump went on to suggest that voting for Biden in the upcoming election would essentially be a vote for Harris, implying that Biden may not complete a full four-year term.
“It seems like he’s locked into her for a lot of reasons. He has to choose her. I understand,” Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “It would seem like the Democrats, if he doesn’t run, have to run her. That’s what all of the professionals like you are saying. I’m not sure that that’s correct, but that’s what they’re saying. Yeah, you’re locked into her. And she might be, I can’t say worse. I think she’d be better than him, actually. I actually think that. I don’t think you can have worse than him.”
As an escalating number of Democrats urge others to rise and contest Biden for the nomination, Trump’s comments emerge. Meanwhile, a significant portion of Democratic voters express doubts regarding his capacity to serve another term.
“He is in a period of his life where passing and death is imminent,” Sharon Sweda, head of the Democratic Party in Lorain County in Ohio, told the Washington Post, adding that she often hears from voters worried about the president’s fragile condition.
“We are all on a ticking clock. But when you’re at his age or at Trump’s age, that clock is ticking a little faster, and that’s a concern for voters,” she continued, the Post noted.
At the same time, the ex-president persisted in criticizing Biden in anticipation of a potential 2024 reprise of their 2020 clash.
“We don’t think President Biden has given more than three long interviews. I’m about to ask you maybe 20, 30 questions. We think he’s given three long interviews this year to Conan O’Brien, Stephanie Ruhle, and Scott Pelley. What do you think that tells us about President Biden?” Hewitt asked.
“Well, he’s incompetent. And he was 25 years ago, too, if you look at his policies. But he’s grossly incompetent. He’s not fit for office. And I really think he’s a danger to democracy. I really believe that because of his incompetence,” Trump said, going on to discuss the Biden administration’s indictments against him.
“They’re all Biden trials. Yeah, but Hugh, yeah, people have to understand these are all Biden trials. These were all inspired by and pushed by DOJ. So this is somebody attacking a political opponent like never before. Every single trial is a Biden trial,” Trump said.
