According to two party advisers, Ronna McDaniel, the current RNC chairwoman, has expressed her willingness to step down from her position after the South Carolina primary. This gesture is aimed at giving former President Donald Trump the opportunity to appoint his own party leaders.
An RNC spokesperson told CNN in that “nothing has changed. This will be decided after South Carolina.”
“We’ve become a party of losers since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost 2018, 2020, 2022,” former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said during the debates. “I think that we have to have accountability in our party. Ronna, if you want to come on stage tonight, you wanna look the GOP voters in the eye and tell ’em you resign I will turn over my time to you.”
According to The New York Times, it is anticipated that Michael Whatley, the current chair of the North Carolina Republican Party, will take over the position previously held by McDaniel.
This update comes as conservatives are livid after recent failures by RNC leadership and have been demanding a change ahead of the 2024 elections.
