According to the Florida Division Of Elections, the number of registered Republican voters in Florida has surpassed Democrats by almost 900,000. The data reveals that there are currently 5,215,016 registered Republicans compared to 4,359,315 Democrats. Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has utilized social media to highlight this significant shift in voter registration, indicating that the gap will continue to widen. He anticipates that Republicans will soon hold a lead of one million voters.

“Prior to 2021, FL never had more registered Republicans than Democrats,” DeSantis wrote on Twitter. “Now, a million voter R registration advantage is within reach. Hillsborough (Tampa) is about to flip from D to R, which will mean every county in the Tampa Bay market has an R advantage in this previously “swing” region of the state.”
According to the Washington Examiner, the population growth in Florida has led to a significant increase in Republican registration. Between July 2021 and July 2022, nearly half a million people relocated to Florida, resulting in the GOP’s advantage swelling to 889,569. In contrast, the Democratic Party has experienced a slight decrease in voters since March, shedding around 1,000. As a result, Republicans now surpass Democrats in 56 out of the state’s 67 counties.
The Washington Examiner also reported that the Republican Party of Florida is optimistic about the upcoming elections, citing the 2020 victory margin and the current registration lead as evidence of a strong Republican presence. However, they remain vigilant and committed to maintaining their efforts.
Florida’s Voice revealed that since March, the Democratic Party has lost over 1,000 voters, while the Republican Party has gained more than 30,000. The GOP is on the verge of flipping two counties, with Hillsborough County narrowly favoring Democrats by a margin of 0.98% and Madison County leaning Republican by a mere 1.14%.
As of April, Republicans dominate in 56 of Florida’s 67 counties, with other counties gradually shifting as well. Democrats are holding on to Duval County by a slim margin of 2.67%, while Miami-Dade County, which supported Governor Ron DeSantis in 2022, is moving towards the Republican Party with a 4.77% gap. Palm Beach County remains one of the few strongholds for Democrats, leaning towards them by 6.18%.
