Gavin Newsom Accidentally Says The Quiet Part Out Loud

California Governor Gavin Newsom, a member of the Democratic Party, shared a light-hearted moment on Friday as he humorously suggested that Democrats orchestrated a coup resulting in President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 election.

Just one month prior to Vice President Kamala Harris’s nomination speech at the Democratic National Convention, Biden announced his decision to forgo reelection and subsequently endorsed Harris. Various news sources indicated that prominent Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and former President Barack Obama, had privately encouraged Biden to step down following a lackluster debate performance on June 27.

During an episode of Pod Save America at the DNC, Newsom wittily remarked to hosts Jon Favreau, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor that the process of replacing Biden with Harris was conducted in a “very open” manner.

“How are you feeling about the switch?” Favreau asked Newsom

“The switch? You know, we went through a very open process, a very inclusive process. It was bottom-up. I don’t know if you know that” he said with laughter. “Yes, that’s what I’ve been told to say.”

The former Obama staffers hosting the podcast giggled as they joked that it was a “blitz” or “blink” primary.

“Yes, it was a blitz primary, I believe it’s what they called it,” Favreau quipped.

“A very, very fast blitz,” Pfeiffer seconded. “It was a blink primary, that’s what you call that.”
