Nikki Haley should have been more aware of the situation. If she truly intended to challenge Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, she should have understood the specific audience she was trying to appeal to. This audience does not align with the viewers of “Saturday Night Live.”
However, Haley made an appearance on the show this past Saturday, in a cold open that was far from successful, much like the show’s previous failed attempt to criticize Rep. Elise Stefanik’s stance on anti-Semitism at prominent American universities in December.
The skit exhibited all the typical characteristics of recent “SNL” sketches – it was heavy-handed, lacked humor, and, unsurprisingly, took a swipe at Trump.
Yet, Haley not only criticized the leading contender for the GOP nomination in an attempt to gain favor with an audience that despises them both, but she also ended up making a fool of herself in the process.
