George Soros, a radical billionaire, has been investing large sums of money into Texas Democrats in an attempt to alter the balance of power in the state, shifting it away from Republicans. The state campaign finance records have revealed Soros’ significant financial contributions in Texas.
Over the past year, Soros has donated more than $3 million to at least five left-leaning organizations in the Lone Star State. As a Hungarian-born financier, Soros intends to strengthen the infrastructure and support Democrats in making progress in this predominantly Republican stronghold. Soros is personally driving the efforts of one of the progressive groups striving to achieve these objectives.
In August, it was disclosed that the Texas Majority PAC, an enigmatic and low-profile organization aiming to turn the state blue, had received substantial funding from Soros’ Democracy PAC II. At that time, the Texas Majority PAC had not yet been publicly launched, and there were no news reports about it.
However, it has since emerged from obscurity and gained significant attention. According to a recent report by The Texas Tribune, the group is operated by former staff members of Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign. Last year, the group managed to raise nearly $2.25 million.
“We need millions of more dollars and hundreds of more full-time staff to do this,” the group’s executive director, Katherine Fischer, told The Texas Tribune last week regarding its fundraising.
“Texas Majority PAC works with partners across the state to create the conditions that will make flipping the state possible.”
Newly published campaign finance records from Texas reveal that all of its donations have been provided by Soros. In addition, Soros himself has contributed a total of $1.4 million, which constitutes the entirety of the PAC’s $2.25 million in donations.
Mayra Flores, a former Republican congresswoman and the first Mexican-born woman to serve in the House of Representatives, holds the belief that Soros is channeling funds into the Texas Majority PAC with the aim of bolstering Democratic voter turnout in 2024.
Flores asserts that Soros is opposed to Republican Hispanic leaders, such as herself, gaining support from other Hispanics who have traditionally voted for Democratic candidates.
“They’re seeing that Hispanics are shifting towards the Republican Party because they’re realizing that we are the party of prosperity, that we want to build a strong economy, that we want to secure the border, that we want to prioritize the people of this country and not prioritize people from outside this country,” Flores recently said.
“And I believe that it’s our policies that are winning people over, and the struggle is real.
“George Soros and the Democratic Party are seeing people like myself that resonate with the Hispanic community,” she added.
“They resonate with me.
“I resonate with them.
“We have similar stories.
“I’m bilingual. I speak Spanish and English.
“We have similar stories, and we share that bond.”
The majority of Soros’ funds in Texas have been directed towards the Texas Majority PA. Nevertheless, he has also contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to various other organizations that are actively supporting the election of Democrats across the state. According to campaign finance records, Soros has made a donation of at least $300,000 to CTX Votes in the latter half of 2023. Interestingly, this organization does not seem to have an online presence.
In December, Soros further donated $250,000 to the Texas Organizing Project, which faced criticism recently for providing bail to an individual accused of multiple murders in Texas, including the suspect’s own parents. Additionally, he allocated $200,000 to the Dallas County Democratic PAC and $100,000 to a group called First Tuesday, which also lacks an online presence, during the latter part of 2023.
